Christian Whitehead, the lead developer behind Sonic Mania, announced on Twitter the establishment of game studio “Evening Star.”
Co-founded by Dave Padilla (CEO and producer) and Whitehead (creative director and lead engine architect), Evening Star describes itself as a boutique studio that enables each of its team members to create their own games. The studio currently has eight employees, and all but one of them were involved in Sonic Mania development. The team is currently seeking an environment artist and a level designer.
Evening Star’s main focus revolves around the Retro Engine, now renamed as the Star Engine. This same engine was the same one Whitehead used to create his past Sonic projects, which ultimately led to Sonic Mania. The Star Engine, along with the Star SDK, will have their capabilities revealed at a later date.
